Using Your Insurance Benefits

Consultation/coaching is generally not covered by insurance. Contact me for special pricing for consultation packages.

Therapy sessions might be covered...

Each individual benefit plan varies. Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance. Here’s how to find out about your insurance coverage:

Your insurance card will list one of these acronyms: HMO or a PPO. If you can’t find it, call the 1-800 number on your card and ask whether you have an HMO or PPO policy.

  • If you have an HMO policy choose a therapist listed with your insurance company. You can usually find the list of “in network” providers on your insurance website of by calling the 1-800 number on your insurance card. In other words, these are the providers that “take your insurance.” Sometimes, if their list doesn’t include the specialist you need, or there are not enough providers in your area, they might allow you to chose an out-of-network provider.

If you are in Corpus Christi, TX (or willing to travel here) you might contact C2 Counseling at (361) 334-1437 to make an appointment with me, or any of our wonderful counselors. My appointment times at C2 Counseling are limited. In the case I’m booked there, you can chose to be in a waiting list.

  • If you have a PPO policy you have more freedom! you get to choose any counselor you like, including me!

Payment is still required at the time of service (I will charge your credit or debit card).

I will then provide you with a receipt to submit to your insurance company so that you can get reimbursed for all or part of that fee. The amount reimbursed depends on your personal coverage under your insurance plan. The best way to find out how much you'll be reimbursed is to call the 1-800 number on your insurance card.

Some questions to ask your insurance provider when you call them:

·         Do I have mental health benefits?

·         What is my deductible and has it been met? (This makes a difference in reimbursement and co-pay)

·         How many mental health sessions per calendar year does my insurance plan cover?

·         How much does my plan cover for an out-of network mental health provider?

·         Are online therapy services covered? (Very important if you are not in Corpus Christi and chose to work with me)

·         How do I obtain reimbursement for therapy with an out-of-network provider? (take notes so I can provide you with what you need)

·         How much will I be reimbursed per therapy session?

·         Do I need to get approval/referral from my primary care physician?

If you called your insurance provider and are still unsure whether your insurance company will cover these session fees, or you simply have more questions, please schedule a free 10 minute phone consultation with me. I will be glad to help you figure things out.

If even with insurance reimbursement you can’t afford counseling services don’t despair!
